America once housed (some) 310 million people but once the virus hit those numbers plummeted quicker than the Titanic. The virus, created by scientist to mutate the cancer cell in the human body had adverse effects and killed the subjects in time. After a varied amount of hours after death (some before their burial) were "revived" and people thought these were miracles, that the virus helped the subjects. The miracles were then a catastrophe when the first subject killed and ate his family, neighbors and eventually managed to infect half a city.
The virus spread quickly, destroying major cities and depleting US population in a matter of nights. The virus spread so quickly that Canada and Mexico were infested days after the initial attack.
