It was early morning and Ella had decided that she wanted to go for a run. She just wanted to go for a jog and see the woods fully since she hadn't done that and she didn't like being stuck at camp all the time. She wanted to do some exploring, but of course she knew she would have to leavea note just incase any walker's appeared or so the campers could be aware that she went for some fresh air even though they were in the woods and camp was already in the middle of fresh air.
She quickly wrote down a note letting them be aware that she went off, but of course not off into the city because that was the stupidest thing anyone could do, especially not letting anyone know that your heading into the city which she had done once and knew that she was never going to do that again since the first time she could of been zombie meal. After she had finished writing the note she quickly put on her running shoes her yoga pants and a jacket that she had with her since she lived in Seattle to her it was her lucky jacket, but that was just how she worked.
After she had gotten all dressed and looked like she was going to be a yoga instructor she peeked out of her tent and saw the other campers enjoying eachother's company it looked sweet and cute, but right now she wanted to focus on getting a good work out into her day since she felt like she was gaining weight even though survival was the number one thing and not getting killed by flesh eatin zombies. She took one small step out of her tent and began to run. She left her tent forgetting one of the most important thing in a time like this, it was her handgun but she was to busy wanting to workout and left it in the tent.
She began jogging but of course was going to stay in the woods at all times. She did not want to go in any direction that was close to the city because all in all something would be horribly lurking its way and there could be a possiblity of her losing her life. Ella began to jog looking at the fresh tree's that blossumed and saw some forest animals that were still living that must have meant it was a good day not to have to deal with walker's at the least. She was jogging but then suddenly heard some rustling of the ground and her body stopped and looked around. She felt like something wasn't right or maybe she had been followed. She looked around and stopped herself from moving forward. "Anyone there? I have a...." She stopped and looked around her body for her gun. "Shit." She mumbled to herself as she realized she had forgotten her gun what an idiot mistake that was.
She heard more rustling of the leaves that surrounded her. "Please tell me it isn't a walker? Please oh god i don't wanna die." She said to herself as she fell to her knee's as she began to panic. "God you bastard you know it isn't my fucking time to die! Please just give me a sign that i am just overreacting and that it isn't one of those things." She begged as she looked over her surroundings and didn't see anything yet. She stood herself up and calmed herself down a bit. "All i am doing is overreacting...and Valerie is still alive." She said to herself as she took deep breathes and began to wonder away from this sight. After she began to walk she heard more rustling of the leaves and this was scarying her shitless. "Fuck...oh fuck." She said and began to run. She had no idea what it was but she didn't wanna find out. She felt like it could of been a walker or more of them but she was unsure. "Someone help!" She shouted as she ran but then she had to catch her breathe but she made sure she was in a safe zone for a moment.

The drive down from New York had been dreadful. Not only had it been long and tiresome, but the added fear of running into any walkers had constantly preyed on Ruby’s mind and she was now looking far worse for wear. She didn’t care of course; such things were ridiculous to worry about in this day and age, but she still couldn’t help but feel a little rough.
When she left her home city, Ruby didn’t know where she was going. South seemed like the best option, considering she had heard on the streets of New York that more survivors were migrating that way. After all, if there was one thing you could learn from Mother Nature, it was that there was safety in numbers. Ruby didn’t even know where the other survivors were heading; all she knew was that she had to get out of the city she had called home for her whole life. It was far too dangerous.
Luckily, she found an abandoned Land Rover just outside of the city and it had a fair amount of petrol in it too. After managing to get her hands on more petrol supplies, replenishing her food stocks and throwing what was left of her belongings in the backseat, Ruby was ready to go. There were no soppy goodbyes, no relatives she was going to miss here. It made Ruby sad to think that, had she left five years previously when she was supposed to, she would be leaving a different town, not knowing whether her parents were alive or not. But as things were, they were six feet under, or at least, Ruby hoped. Although willing to do what was necessary to live, Ruby wasn’t sure if she could shoot both of her parents. Yet another reason to leave her home.
The drive was fairly uneventful. Long, but dull. It wasn’t until she was just leaving Pennsylvania that she got into any real trouble. It was completely Ruby’s fault though. The Rover was nearly out of gas, and Ruby knew she’d have to change it before she was running on empty. She had been in the middle of nowhere, practically, and was feeling far too tired to check her surroundings properly. Luckily, she had enough brains to sling her father’s trusty rifle over her back. There were only two or three walkers that had snuck up behind her and some of Ruby’s quick shooting was enough to fend them off while she hurriedly filled up the petrol tank. Ruby had left in a rush, eager to put as much distance between herself and those monsters as humanly possible.
The rest of the trip passed in one big, long blur. Ruby tried to travel as stealthily as possible, in case she was being followed. She wasn’t sure if walkers were smart enough to track her, but there was also the threat of drawing the attention of other survivors. And from all the stories Ruby had heard, she was able to deduce that there were some not so nice ones out there.
It wasn't until she was crossing into Georgia that the Rover finally ran out of gas. Ruby wasn’t too bothered. Walking wasn’t too much of a hassle for her, it just meant she’d have to be extra careful. She had been wandering for a good few days when she came across some woods. Ruby had no clue where she was, or even if she was still in Georgia. She had tried to avoid roads as much as possible. There was too much open space and she could have been easily mistaken as a walker by an approaching vehicle. And if the people who came across her had any basic survival instincts, they wouldn’t wait to find out her living status and would shoot upon first sight. Ruby sure wouldn’t have.
It was while she was walking in these woods that Ruby caught a flash of movement between a few trees. Immediately, she froze. It could have been anything, a walker, a bird, another survivor. Even though the latter may have set a flicker of hope going in Ruby’s chest, she knew she had to be cautious. There was no guarantees that they would be friendly. She tried to move quietly through the trees, but the dense foliage made every one of her movements reverberate through the leaves, causing them to rustle. When she heard a girl shout, Ruby knew she had been heard.
Ruby, as panicked as she was, couldn’t understand a word of what the girl was saying. What really caught her attention was the fact that the voice was so familiar. The brunette knew that voice. But before she had a chance to check the identity of the girl, she had turned and fled. A slight frown appeared on Ruby’s face as she made to follow her. ‘Wait!’ Ruby yelled, her voice echoing through the trees. She tried to run faster, but her short legs just couldn’t keep up with the person she was chasing. She was about to give up when she saw the girl in a clearing, trying to catch her breath. Ruby’s blue eyes landed on the face of the woman in front of her, and she couldn’t help but take a sharp breath.
‘Ella?’ Ruby’s voice carried through the clearing, even though it was little more than a whisper. ‘My God, Ella, is that really you?’ She stood awkwardly at the edge of the clearing for a moment, readjusting her rifle on her shoulder and moving the backpack she carried uncomfortably. ‘What are you doing here?’ Finding her confidence once again, Ruby smiled and walked forward, towards her friend. ‘I can’t believe I found you!’

After she ran all that way and then decided to breathe for a second. She was so terrified and didn't wanna be any dead zombies dinner. This was her life and nothing in the world was going to take it from her. Not now she had lived this long and things were now looking up for her and swore she was not going to let her life end right now at any moment.
She was catching her breathe and looking around the woods. Her eye's were scanning and making sure that there would be no one else close to her, meaning walker's. She was going to protect herself even though in the end she made an idiot move and forgot her god damn handgun and that was her fault but still she had to do the best and protect herself. Her life could or would of been on the line just by making those stupid mistakes.
While she was running though she swore she heard a womans voice that hollered out wait. Maybe she was over thinking and thinking that there was a walker when really in the end it was a woman probably looking for camp. She sat herself down on a tree stump. She was trying to think to herself if maybe just maybe her mind was playing tricks on her and wanting her to believe that there was a walker out to get her. She looked around the woods still scanning until
Until she saw a familiar looking face. She is alive? No this can't be her, can it be? She thought to herself looking up at the woman who looked like her best friend that she would visit in new york all the time. Ella was weary of the fact that is just might not be her though already she felt like her mind was playing tricks on her and she just couldn't be to sure at all. When she heard her say her name she blinked a few times. "It knows my name." She mumbled to herself still thinking that this was all just a dream.
She shook her head and stood herself up. In some way she felt like in the end she was really still sleeping at camp and this wasn't reality. She rubbed her eye's and heard the figure speak. Her jaw dropped. "I'm not dreaming am i?" She quickly asked herself as she looked around. She felt like poking at he figure that knew her name but she didn't wanna risk getting bitten now did she? She rubbed her eye's once more and it seemed like this figure was a woman that knew her. "Yes i am really Ella, I'm real..." She drifted off. She was still a bit uneasy and feeling like she was in a nightmare. She decided to give herself a good slap on the cheek so she would be able to reassure herself that indeed she was awake. After she slapped her cheek she realized she was awake. Now she felt like she looked like an idiot. "What am i doing here? What are you doing here? I thought you were in new York." She said but then continued on why she was here. "I left Seattle a few weeks ago and found camp here, and some amazing people but yeah its safer here." She explained to her while she pointed up to the area where camp was. "I can't believe that my best friend Ruby is alive how incredible is that." She said with excitement in her voice.

Ruby was truly gobsmacked about happening upon her best friend in the middle of these woods. She hadn't even begun to imagine what she would say when she found someone, an alive someone, or how she would approach them. It wasn't like Ruby to plan things like that though; she was used to thinking quickly on her feet and worked best under pressure. Even so, looking upon Ella when Rubes had thought she wouldn't meet anyone for days, possibly weeks, left her with not a lot to say. It was probably one of the very few moments in her life that had done that to Ruby.
As she walked towards her, Ruby's grin widened even more. It was her friend, not just a trick of her mind, a mere illusion. Ella was here, and Ruby was here; it had to be good, right? She watched her friend, stopping her approach a few feet away from the blonde girl and let out a laugh at Ella's attempts to prove to herself that it was a dream. The self-slapping technique was amusing to see, but it didn't seem to help Ella much. It seemed that she too was in a state of shock.
'I was in New York.' Ruby started to explain. 'But things just got so dangerous. I had to get out of there, ASAP.' She shivered at the memories. The walker population in New York was on the rise and it was getting harder and harder to go unnoticed by them. Ruby knew that she should leave her home city sooner rather than later when she awoke one morning to find walkers shuffling down the end of the street she had chosen to rest in. She had thought she would have been safe, tucked away out of sight, but it was obvious she wasn't. Ruby was just glad she had woken up when she did.
Ella's next statement immediately caught Ruby's attention and dragged her out of her memories. 'You mean the camp's near here?' Ruby asked. The whole reason she had left for the Southern states was because she had heard rumors of a camp in Georgia. She was glad to hear that the camp was deemed safer than anywhere else. It seemed that the 'safety in numbers' theory was correct, even when it came to the walkers. Ruby felt relief flood through her. The brunette hadn't been sure if she was going to become a part of the camp upon her arrival, or even if she would be able to assimilate herself into it's society, but that was before she knew Ella was here. Ella, her best friend. Ruby still couldn't quite believe it. Of all the people she knew outside of New York, she met Ella. Wasn't that weird?
Ruby laughed good-naturedly once again at Ella's disbelief. It was incredible that they should meet again. In Georgia of all places, miles away from either of their homes. Putting down her heavy backpack, and readjusting the rifle on her back so it wouldn't get away, Ruby leaned down to her friend and wrapped her arms around Ella in a friendly hug. 'It is incredible. I'm so glad I found someone I know!' Ruby exclaimed. She wasn't sure that she would have found anyone at all. She may have even missed the camp altogether if it weren't for Ella! The hug seemed to clear Ruby's mind and prove to her that Ella wasn't just an illusion. She hoped it would work vice versa too. If Ruby had any less self control, she knew she would be bawling her eyes out. As it was, she felt her eyes filling with tears.
Ruby took a step back, resting her hands on Ella's shoulders and taking a good look at her familiar face and absorbing all the changes. 'How've you been, hon?' Ruby inquired, wanting to hear everything that Ella had been through. All the while, Ruby couldn't keep that stupid grin off of her face.

In a way Ella still felt like this was an allusion and that she was being punished by God that her bestest friend in the world was infront of her. She felt like if she took out an invisble gun it might scare the allusion that she thought away, but that all sounded stupid right?l had no way to be sure if this was all in her head some how or if this was reality. She began to tap the side of her head sharply and she thought to herself. This cannot be Rubes really? If it is then how the hell did she get here? Questions rambled through her head as she thought about it.
She cleared her head of the thoughts and just felt like she had to go along with it and play with this still allusion even though this was not an allusion one bit. "Of course you would have to get out of there if it was walker nation." She responded looking her up and down and unsure of what was the best thing to do in this situation. "How did you manage to get out of there then? If there were hoards and all?" She asked another question all she was doing was making sure that this was all real cause in a way she still felt like she was dreaming.
Her eye's raised up when she felt a tight hug and then hands on her shoulder's the fact that she could feel something was making it more and more believeable. "Yes there are campers up in that area, there are tons of us, and some cute men and all." She said now feeling some of the water works come along as she realized that this was not a dream but reality and knowing that her best friend was alive was great to know. "Tell me about the feeling. This whole time i was thinking you were walker supper or some strange shit like that. I thought i would never see you again, but here you are!" She said as her voice raised with excitement and knowing that this was all real and it wasn't any more a dream or a fantasy.
Her shoulders shrugged down. She had been alright and all, but of course she was looking for her little girl, but romance was hitting an all time high. She wasn't exactly sure on how to say she was. She thought for a moment and finally some words came out of her mouth. "I'm great, just looking for Valerie, that bloody bastard took her right when the outbreak happened, and i've met someone, but nothing serious has really happened yet, but other then that i'm happy to still be alive and not the undead and i'm so happy to know that your alive and you still look great." She said with a smile appearing on her face. "Lets get you to camp Rubes before one of those things end up appearing out of no where." She told her while she placed her arm around her shoulder.

Ruby closed her eyes when Ella asked how exactly she had gotten out of a hoard infested New York. It hadn't been easy, not at all. It took her days just to reach the edges of her homecity, skulking in the shadows. And then it took her another three days to find the vehicle that she had used to drive south and gather the necessary amount of petrol. All the while, Ruby had been hiding from walkers and trying not to draw attention to what she was doing. Interruptions of any kind, undead or alive, would not have been appreciated.
Despite this, when Ruby opened her eyes, she was smiling. 'Oh, you know me. I'm so small it's like I'm invisible.' Ruby's grin widened as she winked at her friend. 'And some idiot left their Land Rover outside the city. With it's keys in the ignition.' Only then did it dawn on Ruby just how lucky she was. What if she hadn't found the truck? She'd still be hiking her way through Pennsylvania somewhere. That was if she had managed to survive on her own that far. Rubes felt herself shudder involuntarily. Those were not so nice thoughts to be having.
Ruby laughed at Ella's comment about there being cute guys at the camp. It was so... Ella-like that Ruby's eyes were filling to the point of overflowing. She had missed her friend so much over the years, and Ruby wished she had made more of an effort to see her in Seattle. And in all honesty, Ruby liked the sound of there being cute guys there too. 'You think I would let myself be eaten by those things? What do you think the rifle's for, sweetie?' Ruby gestured to the gun on her back that she had carried religiously since the beginning of the outbreak.
Ruby's eyes widened with concern upon hearing her friend's words. Valerie was gone? Little Valerie... Ruby hadn't seen her godchild in months, and it was hard to believe that she may never see her again. Instantly, Ruby perished the thought. Valerie would be fine. Skirting around the subject, Ruby smiled kindly at Ella as she felt the girl's arm wrap around her shoulders. 'Ooh, who's this someone, El?' She teased. 'Can I meet him? Does he have a friend?' Ruby was joking, of course. Or at least partially, anyway. 'I look good? You've got to be shitting me. I've been bush trekking for the past few days. Imagine what I'd look like with a bit of work.' Ruby laughed good naturedly. She was aware that she was pretty, but Ruby had always felt a little plain next to Ella.
As they walked, Ruby couldn't help but take a look around the forest. It was rather pretty in it's own natural way, so different from the concrete jungle she had lived in for her whole life. But it was also far too quiet for the brunette's liking. It made her feel uncomfortable, like something was just waiting to leap out at her. Clearing her throat to get rid of her paranoia, Ruby spoke to Ella. 'So where is this camp? It's not too far away, is it?' It wasn't that Ruby didn't want to walk, she was just concerned for her friend. Why would Ella run such a long distance away from the safety of the camp without any weapons? It seemed a little risky for Ruby, and she didn't like the thought of her friend being in danger.

Just knowing that her best friend was back in her life was a good thing. Maybe it was a sign that maybe just maybe her little girl was out there in the world alive and with people who could keep her safe and protected. It was all that she was hoping for and hoping for the best, but at the same time she was just so happy to know that her best friend was alive and have survived the infest of walker's in New York.
She blinked a few times and looked at Ruby. "Yes i do know you, i know absolute everything there is to know about you." She said with a smile knowing it was true. They had known each other for so long and had always been very close to one another and that was just a good thing to know that she had a close friend that she could tell anything and everything too. Ella thought for a moment and realized she was pretty lucky that an idiot did that or else the two of them would have not been reunited. "Well i think you should thank that Idiot for doing that or else you might not have been here." She said and hugged her friend even tighter with her one arm.
Still thinking how great of a moment this was having her back in her life was great and all, and she was just happy to know that she was safe from anything undead that ate human flesh and all. "Of course i wouldn't think that you would wanna get eaten by those things. No one wants too." Shaking her head and still seeing imagines of people getting their limbs torn off. It was a horrible sight and was no where near pleasant at all. Her shoulders Bent in a shrug. "Its for shooting rabbits of course." She joked with a small smile.
When she asked her that question her cheeks just turned rosy red. "He is a well he was a officer and all, he is a hunk of course and well i can pretty much tell him anything." She said to her with her cheeks still rosy like a flower. "No you can't meet him." She paused and laughed. "Of course you can meet him besides he is up at camp, well he does have a friend but he is married. We will find you a guy Rubes." She nudged her shoulder and grinned at her.
In her eye's she always thought that Ruby was a beautiful desert flower that needed to blossom a bit more, and thought her friend was one of the best lookers she had ever met, but of course that was her opinion and everything and now it didn't seem like it mattered that much since the world turned to shit and everyone seemed to be dying. "Yeah you look great Ruby and I'm not shitting you. I'm still surprised you never got married or anything with your looks and wonderful personality." She told her straight in the eye's. At her next question she pointed up the direction of where camp was with her pointer finger. "It is just up that way, we are only a good five minute walk from camp." She said with her finger still pointed up that way.

Ruby laughed at Ella's insistence that she knew everything there was about Ruby. She supposed that was true. They had been friends for so long, it was hard to keep anything a secret from the other for a long period of time. 'Yeah, you're right.' She admitted before giggling some more. 'And I do thank that idiot. I'd hate to have walked the whole journey.' Ruby shuddered again. The thought made her feel very cold, almost unnaturally so.
She grinned at hearing Ella's joke. 'Well, you know how much I love to eat rabbits.' Ruby said sarcastically in return. In truth, the idea made her feel sick. From what she had heard, rabbit meat wasn't all that appetizing. She'd stick to the usual chicken, beef, fish and pork, thank you very much. Plus, Ruby had always wanted a pet rabbit as a child, even if they weren't really recommended for Manhattan apartments.
Ruby grinned at Ella as she blushed. It seemed like she'd fallen for this guy pretty hard. And the fact that he was an officer impressed Ruby greatly. Nevertheless, a disappointed pout crossed Ruby's features as she heard his friend was married. But it was gone in an instant, as quickly as it came when Ella said they'd find her a guy. Ruby didn't really think she needed one; she was perfectly fine coping on her own. It was just that, very rarely, she wished she had someone to call her own. And seeing Ella looking so happy about some guy started up that familiar ache.
Ella's next comment made Ruby laugh. And not just chuckle, but very nearly doubling up with laughter. 'Me? Married at twenty four? I don't see it, sorry...' she said in between laughing fits. It took her a while to calm down and when she did, Ruby was positively beaming at her friend. 'But thanks for the compliment. Unfortunately next to you, I look plain...' Ruby said laughing. well, it was true. Who would take a raven haired midget over a blonde beauty? Not many of the guys Ruby knew, or had known, back in New York, that's for sure.
Ruby's eyes followed the direction Ella's hand was pointing, trying to see through the trees and catch sight of any sign of there being human life here. Needless to say, her attempts failed. It really did seem like the perfect place to hide a campsite. 'Well, let's get a move on then.' She waited for Ella to lead her. After all, Ruby had no idea where she was going. If she led them all it would achieve was the two of them getting lost, and Ruby didn't fancy that at all.

It was great to know that she knew someone who hadn't been killed by those horrific zombies and that there was maybe hope in the world that this would just past by and everyone could live their normal lives once again. Even though most of the population was basically walking around dead but hungry for flesh. "Of course i'm right, I mean you'd still be up east some where trying to survive, but hey your here now and i'm so happy." She told her and gave her another tight squeeze. "To much walking is a bad thing, and your never safe if all you do is walk." She added and her arms tightened up once more.
She was happy that she had made a funny joke since she knew it had been a very long time since she had joked about something as silly as someone eating rabbits. "Well ya know there are plenty of dead rabbits around this area, No Bugs Bunny though." [/b]She sighed, but let out another soft and small chuckle.
She saw her grin and saw how it went a little bit upside down. She wasn't sure what she could say to make it go right back up. Instead she just nodded her head and kept a close lookout behind her just incase one of those things were to suddenly appear. She was just thrilled to have her best friend back in her life knowing that it had been so long since they had hung out and drank together and had some amazing nights drinking together.
Ella looked at Ruby when she saw her laughing. She didn't understand how it was funny that her own friend was not married. She had gotten married young well mostly because she was having a baby at the time, but still and she was always curious as to why her own best friend wasn't married. "I don't understand it though, you were dating that one doctor guy like a few years back and all, and what exactly happened with him?"[/b] She asked since she knew that she didn't have all the details to why that relationship went and blew up into a firey smoke. Ella shook her head at her. "Hun you are no where as plain besides me. You look like the shining moon compared to me." [/b]She said, but that is just how she saw it, and she had been jealous of her friend in the past for just how her personality was, but never clearly showed it.
She began to walk towards the campsite area with Ruby close behind her. "Ok we'll get a moving, I hope you like to eat fish though...thats basically what we've been eating since the city is so dangerous." She added and kept moving up towards the campsite.
