The time, way too early for anyone to be awake but at least the sun was poking up from behind the trees. The weather was a little chilly but nothing a nice warm looted jacket could not fix. She had snuck out of her hiding place that happened to be an old ranger tower. It was high off the ground and offered protection from who ever came close, alive or dead. Below the tower, hidden away in brush, sat her four wheeler that she looted when she discovered there was some places a truck could not go, that’s not saying the trucks not hidden too cause it is. The truck is what she uses when going close to town to seek out supplies. For the last few weeks since taking over the tower she survived by only lighting a fire for cooking or to clean water. When she finishes she eliminates all traces of there ever being a fire and is sure to bury all scraps as far from her camp as safe as she can. During the day, no one ever know anyone one was sitting high up watching with some binoculars, just waiting for the right time to move.
She survived by fishing with crude made spears and trapping small animals in traps never made to be seen unless you knew what you where looking for. Today she was actually hunting, last two days something has been tripping her traps, she was going to get to the bottom of this problem, she had a feeling she was dealing with wild boar. She had more than her share of run in with boar in Arkansas. She had a friend who would invite her and Allan to stay just so they could hunt boar. She knew how dangerous one could be angered but not killed right out, so this was why she was sitting in a tree. She bated a trap and waited. The sun was almost at high noon when a big grey boar gambled his way from the brush. Mara’s mouth drooped a little; she had never seen one so fat.
She recovered fast enough to shoulder her shot gun and line up the sights. She hesitated, that was a big pig, there would be a lot going to waste, she knew she could not eat it all and it would spoil fast if left out. She also knew if she didn’t kill him, he would be able to kill her. She pulled the trigger and popped him just below his ear and right into his brain.
He squealed and fell over dead; she had never made a shot that good and knew she may never make another one like it. Mara sat where she was, she was in no hurry now. She wanted to wait to make sure he was dead before she climbed out of the tree, plus the boom of her rifle echoed, she should have thought twice before shooting where she was, she knew the sound would travel and now all the animals will scatter, the dead will come to the noise and if there are any alive people around they will come as well. Her cover was blown and she knew it.
”Dang!”[/color] she muttered to herself, she knew she messed up big time now. With a sigh she slung her rifle across her back and climbed out of the tree. She walked over to the pig and kicked it. With a grumble, she got to work rigging it up to the back of the four wheeler. Her plan was to drag it to the water and clean it there. She thought the water would help carry away the smell of blood. Once she had everything she needed, she was on her way.
