Win Some, Lose Some [Open]

He bit his bottom lip. He was not happy with how she was basically scolding him and being so mean to him. He just offered to go with her and demanded that he should go, only because he didn’t want to stick around when Shane was up. But the more that Emmy spoke to him, the sooner his eyes started to swell up with water. When she poked him in the chest, he was quick enough to push her back so hard he didn’t care if she fell down and hurt her behind. He ran around her back to the sleeping bags and dove into the spot between his parents, burying himself into whatever covers they had at the time. That way, Shane couldn’t find him right away, but also Emmy wouldn’t see him crying.

He wouldn’t dare go back to Emmy, not anymore. She was really mean! Seriously, he didn’t know how she had talked to him, basically insulting him and almost yelling at him. Everyone knew you weren’t supposed to yell at other people’s children. He didn’t hear everything, but he knew she wasn’t being nice. Why else would she look like that while she was basically scolding him? He could definitely hear most of what she was saying, and he knew it wasn’t pleasant. He didn’t have to try and form the sentences completely, of course, but for the time being, he would just stay buried in his parents’ covers, doing his best to stop crying and to just fall asleep between them. Although they would probably wonder why he was already fully dressed. Nothing he could do now, though.

His parents were starting to stir around, but his mother woke up soon enough when she found Carl. A little conversation passed before Carl drifted off into a morning nap. Shane had woke up by now and was looking, almost furiously, in the Grimes’ direction. Soon, the family would wake up, and Carl did his best to stay away from Emmy or Shane by sticking close to the parents while they went about to their business. If Emmy tried to approach him, he would just hide behind his mother and shrug, actually deny anything that would’ve happened earlier if she mentioned any of it.
